Microneedling & Platelet-Rich Plasma

microneedling

Why we love microneedling?
We love microneedling because it treats a range of skin issues and is an ideal for any skin type. As the tiny microneedle channels heal, your own collagen and elastin are naturally produced. This can cause the skin to shrink and tighten. It requires less healing time than a surgical face lift and can help with fine lines/wrinkles and even scars. This treatment promotes our own body's repair mechanism.

What are the benefits of microneedling?

Why We Love PRP
What is Platelet-Rich Plasma?
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is an extract of your own blood that contains three to five times more platelets, growth factors and active proteins for tissue and injury healing. When PRP is placed back into the skin by injection or microneedling, it initiates a localized stem cell response. Over the next few weeks and months following treatment, this stem cell response recruits collagen-producing cells called fibroblasts. The fibroblasts replace tissue that has been damaged or lost through the aging process with healthy skin.

The Real Question
What are the benefits of microneedling with PRP?
When PRP is used with microneedling, it penetrates your skin through the tiny channels the microneedles create. The PRP supercharges the microneedling benefits. PRP also addresses under-eye puffiness and dark circles to give you a more youthful, well-rested appearance. Since PRP is derived from your own blood, the side effects are virtually eliminated giving you less down time (a day or two).

Which areas of the body can be treated with microneedling and PRP?

Who is a good candidate for microneedling with PRP?
Microneedling with PRP is a very safe and effective treatment for adults with all skin types who wish to improve their skin quality. The depth of the treatment can be adjusted to meet the client’s individual needs and objectives. Due to its low-risk profile, microneedling with PRP is a good option for people who are not good candidates for lasers, such as those with darker skin types. Microneedling with PRP is also a very powerful tool for treating scars on the face and body (stretch marks).

How is the microneedling with PRP procedure performed?
First, we apply a topical numbing gel to the treatment area for optimal comfort. Then we insert a new sterile cartridge and select the appropriate depth setting based on your skin’s unique needs. We then apply your prepared PRP solution to the treatment area before and after the microneedling procedure to ensure that the PRP gets fully absorbed in the channels created by the needling. When the treatment is done we send you home with SPF, and give you at home care to fallow for the next 72 hours.

What does microneedling feel like?
We apply a topical numbing cream prior to the treatment so that discomfort is significantly lessened. Microneedling feels like light sandpaper being moved across the skin. In some areas there is more sensation such as thinner skin on the forehead and around the eyes.

How long does the procedure take?
A full treatment is about one hour total. The numbing process takes about 30 minutes. If you are having PRP in addition to your microneedling treatment we would draw your blood and centrifuge it to obtain the PRP while you are numbing. The microneedling itself only takes about 30 minutes, depending on the treatment area.

What is the downtime after the microneedling with PRP?
The downtime is minimal with only one to three days of mild redness, depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment. Proper post treatment care will help the recovery process. Many say it is equivalent to a sunburn for the first few days. When microneedling is paired with PRP the downtime is significantly reduced.

When will I see results?
You’ll notice an immediate “glow” to your skin and it will continue to improve over the next few weeks. It takes a full 4 weeks for your collagen production to finish the recovery process. The full results can be seen up to 6 months post treatment as collagen production continues. If paired with good skin care and good sun protection results can last even longer.

How many treatments are needed to see optimal results?
We recommend a series of at least 3 to 6 treatments about four to six weeks apart to see the best results. You can then do the treatment about once a year to maintain these results. Treatment numbers may differ depending on skin conditions and concerns.
