Hair Loss Q & A

What causes hair loss?

The Aesthetic Therapies medical team has extensive knowledge about hair growth issues. They work with both hair loss and excess hair growth.

On average, people lose around 100 hairs each day, but if you’re losing excessive and noticeable amounts of hair, it could be due to a number of factors, such as:

Alopecia

Alopecia is a medical condition resulting in scalp infections and patchy hair loss.

Medication

The side effects of some drugs, such as radiation therapy, can cause hair loss. They do not diagnose the cause of hair loss but accept referrals.

Hormonal changes

Changes in your hormone levels because of pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, or thyroid problems can cause hair loss.

Many people have hormonal disorders or autoimmune diseases that play a role in hair loss or excess hair growth. Many transgender men and women choose Aesthetic Therapies for quality treatments for hair loss or excess hair growth before they transition.

No matter the cause of your hair loss or your reason for seeking hair treatments, Aesthetic Therapies has viable solutions for you, including specific products to help you regrow hair, such as Zenagen Revolve, Evolve Hair Solutions, or Nizoral®.

What is platelet-rich plasma?

Aesthetic Therapies offers platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy to treat hair loss in people of all ages. PRP is a concentrated preparation of platelets and the associated growth factors in a small volume of plasma.

Platelets in human blood release numerous growth factors and other molecules that are particularly responsive to tissue injury. The growth factors initiate and promote the conditions for cell regeneration and healing and restoring hair growth.

How does PRP work to treat hair loss?

PRP therapy is a treatment that uses microneedling or injections of platelet-rich plasma to stimulate your hair growth.

Your specialist takes a sample of your own blood and runs it through a special machine called a centrifuge that separates the platelets from other blood matter and concentrates the platelets.

Your specialist carefully injects this platelet solution into targeted areas on your scalp at the level of the hair follicles using a microneedling process.

The injections are spread across your scalp approximately at every half inch over the area of thinning hair. The whole process only takes about 20 minutes.

Microneedling is a cosmetic treatment that effectively tricks your skin into thinking it’s been injured. These micro-wounds induce collagen production and cell regeneration. Combining PRP with microneedling speeds up your body’s natural healing process even further.

Microneedling combined with PRP triggers natural hair growth and increases the blood supply to your hair follicles. This boosts the thickness of your hair shaft. PRP uses your own blood, making it an especially safe process with no side effects.

Aesthetic Therapies collaborates with a valuable network of specialists and physicians and can provide referrals when necessary. Aesthetic Therapies also accepts referrals for those dealing with hair growth issues.

If recommended and approved by your physician, you can choose PRP injections to give you a fuller, thicker, and healthier head of hair.
